About this Zalgo text generator
Zalgo text looks as if it is melting or possessed. It is made by piling Unicode combining marks, the small accents and strokes used in many languages, on top of ordinary letters until they spill above and below the line. Because the marks are real characters, the effect copies and pastes like normal text. Choose an intensity from a light dusting to an extreme mess, and send the marks in every direction, only upward, only downward, or through the middle. Every press picks new random marks, so no two results look the same.
How to make Zalgo text
- Type your text. Type a short phrase, or press an example. Short text works best, because heavy Zalgo gets very tall.
- Choose intensity and direction. Pick an Intensity from Mini to Ultra and a Direction for the marks.
- Press Make Zalgo text. Your version appears first, followed by the Cursed, Haunted, Glitched, and Demon styles.
- Copy or reroll. Press Copy next to a version, or press the button again for a fresh random pattern.
Frequently asked questions
How does Zalgo text work?
Each letter is followed by a random set of combining diacritical marks from the Unicode range U+0300 to U+036F. Fonts stack these marks on the letter in front of them, and many of them at once spread far above and below the line.
Why does it look different on another device?
Every app and font decides how to draw stacked marks. Some draw them all, some clip them at the line height, and a few show boxes, so the same text can look tall on one phone and tidy on another.
Why is my result different every time?
The marks are chosen at random for each character on every press. Keep pressing the button until you get a pattern you like, then copy it.
Where can I use Zalgo text?
In chats, games, usernames, and social posts that accept Unicode. Some sites limit the number of combining marks or remove them, so the light and normal levels are the safest choice.
Can screen readers read Zalgo text?
Poorly. Screen readers may read out dozens of marks for each letter, which makes the text hard to follow, so avoid it for anything people need to understand.
