About this strikethrough generator

Many places where you type, such as social media bios, comments, and chat apps, have no strikethrough button. This generator gets around that by adding a Unicode combining mark after every character. The mark is drawn across, under, or over the letter it follows, so the effect is part of the text itself and survives copy and paste. You get 12 styles, from the classic line through the middle to slashes, a wavy line, underlines, and overlines. By default spaces are left plain, which keeps the gaps between words clean in most fonts.

How to make strikethrough text

  1. Type your text. Type or paste up to 5,000 characters, or press an example.
  2. Choose how to treat spaces. Keep Leave spaces without a line ticked for clean gaps, or untick it for a continuous line.
  3. Press Make strikethrough text. All 12 styles appear below.
  4. Copy a style. Press Copy next to the one you like and paste it into your post, bio, or message.

Frequently asked questions

How does the strikethrough work without formatting?

Each letter is followed by a combining character, such as U+0336, that the font draws on top of the letter before it. The result is plain text, so it keeps its look in places that strip bold, italics, and other formatting.

Why does the line look broken between letters?

Some fonts draw each mark only as wide as its letter, which leaves small gaps. The long classic style usually joins best, and the result also depends on the app and device of the person reading it.

What does leaving spaces without a line do?

Spaces and line breaks get no mark, so only the words are crossed out. Untick it to put a mark on spaces too, which gives a more continuous line in fonts that support it.

Will screen readers read strikethrough text?

Often badly. Many screen readers announce the combining marks or skip the word, so avoid it for important information and use real formatting where the site offers it.

Can I remove the strikethrough later?

Yes. Delete the combining marks with an invisible character remover, or simply retype the text. The letters underneath are the normal letters you typed.
