About this spin the wheel picker
A spinning wheel makes a random choice fun to watch, whether you are picking a lunch spot, a classroom volunteer, a prize, or the next game to play. Enter between 2 and 50 choices and the wheel is divided into equal slices. The winner is picked with your browser’s cryptographic random number generator before the wheel starts turning, so the animation only reveals a result that was already fair. Repeat an entry to give it more slices. Your list is saved in your own browser, so it is still there the next time you open the page.
How to spin the wheel
- Enter your choices. Type each option on its own line, or press an example wheel such as Lunch options.
- Pick a style. Choose a Colour theme and switch Sound on or off.
- Press Spin the wheel. The wheel spins, slows down, and stops on the winner, which is shown below it.
- Spin again. Press the button again for another pick, or edit the list first.
Frequently asked questions
Is the wheel fair?
Yes. The winner is chosen with the Web Crypto random generator, giving every slice the same chance, before the animation begins. The speed and length of the spin have no effect on the result.
How can I give one choice a bigger chance?
Enter it more than once. A choice listed twice gets two slices and twice the chance of any choice listed once, as in the Prize wheel example with three Try again slices.
Is my list saved?
It is saved in your browser’s local storage on this device whenever you edit it, so it comes back when you return. It is not sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data removes it.
How many choices can the wheel hold?
Between 2 and 50. Above about 20 the labels get small, so long names are shortened on the wheel, but the full winner is always written out below it.
