About this line break remover
Text copied from a PDF, an email, or a narrow web column often has a line break at the end of every line, which leaves ragged text when you paste it somewhere else. This tool joins those lines back together. Replace each break with a space for normal text, remove it completely for strings such as codes or hashes, use a comma to turn a column into a list, or type any separator you need. Smart mode keeps blank lines between paragraphs and puts hyphenated words such as "hy-\nphenated" back together.
How to remove line breaks
- Paste your text. Paste the text with unwanted breaks, or press an example. An example only fills the box.
- Choose a replacement. Pick a space, nothing, smart mode, a comma, or a custom separator. Turn on Keep paragraph breaks to leave blank lines in place.
- Press Remove line breaks. The joined text appears below with the number of line breaks removed.
- Copy or download. Press Copy text, or Download to save the result.
Frequently asked questions
Will joined lines end up with double spaces?
No. Spaces and tabs at the end and start of each broken line are removed along with the break, so exactly one replacement is inserted.
What does smart mode do?
It treats a blank line as a paragraph break and keeps it, replaces every other line break with a space, and joins words that were split by a hyphen at the end of a line, such as "exam-" and "ple".
What happens to several line breaks in a row?
They are replaced once, not once per break. With Keep paragraph breaks on, they become a single blank line between paragraphs instead.
Can I turn a column of values into a comma-separated list?
Yes. Choose "A comma and a space" for apples, bananas, cherries, or choose a custom separator such as a comma alone or a semicolon.
Which kinds of line breaks are removed?
All of them: Windows (CR + LF), macOS and Linux (LF), and classic Mac (CR). Line breaks at the very start and end of the text are removed without a replacement.
