About this random group generator
Teachers, coaches, trainers, and event organizers often need to split people into groups without favoritism. This generator shuffles your list with the Fisher–Yates method and a cryptographically secure random source, so every arrangement is equally likely, and then deals the names into groups one by one, like cards, which keeps the group sizes within one of each other. You can ask for a set number of groups, such as three teams, or a set size, such as pairs or teams of four; when the names do not divide evenly, sizes differ by one and nobody is left in a group alone. Everything happens in your browser, so the names you enter are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions
What happens if the names do not divide evenly?
The extra people are spread out so that no group is more than one person larger than another. For 10 names in 3 groups you get groups of 4, 3, and 3.
Are the groups really random?
Yes. The list is shuffled with a cryptographically secure generator using the Fisher–Yates method, which gives every possible ordering the same chance.
Can I make pairs?
Choose People per group and enter 2. With an odd number of names, one group becomes a trio so nobody is left alone.
Are my names stored anywhere?
No. The grouping runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to a server or saved.
How many names can I use?
Up to 1,000 names, which is plenty for classrooms, tournaments, conferences, and company events.
