About this meta tag generator
Meta tags are small pieces of HTML in a page’s head that describe it to search engines and social networks. The title and description decide how the page looks in search results. Open Graph tags control the card shown when someone shares it on Facebook or LinkedIn, and Twitter card tags do the same on X. This generator writes valid, escaped tags from plain fields, warns when a value is longer than the usual display limit, and shows previews of the Google result and the social cards. The preview does not load your images; it only shows the address.
How to generate meta tags
- Start with the basics. Enter a Page title and a Meta description, and set Robots, Canonical URL, and Language if you need them. Press an example to see a filled form.
- Add social sharing tags. Under Open Graph and Twitter / X card, fill in the titles, descriptions, and image addresses that should appear when the page is shared.
- Press Generate meta tags. Read the Things to check list and the three previews, and fix anything flagged.
- Paste the code into your head. Press Copy code and paste the tags between the head tags of your HTML page.
Frequently asked questions
How long should a title and description be?
Aim for about 60 characters for the title and 160 for the description. Google cuts longer ones with an ellipsis, and the counters under each box show how close you are.
Do meta keywords help SEO?
No. Google has ignored the keywords tag for search ranking for many years. It is included because some other systems still read it, but you can leave it empty.
What are Open Graph and Twitter cards?
They are tags that choose the title, description, and picture shown when a link is shared. Facebook, LinkedIn, and most chat apps read Open Graph, and X reads its own Twitter tags and falls back to Open Graph.
What image size should I use for og:image?
About 1200 by 630 pixels, with a 1.91 to 1 ratio, as a JPG or PNG under a few megabytes. The address must be a full URL that the public internet can reach.
When should I use noindex?
Choose noindex for pages that should stay out of search results, such as thank-you pages and internal search. The page must stay crawlable for the tag to be seen, so do not also block it in robots.txt.
