About this JSON to CSV converter
API responses and exports are usually JSON, but spreadsheets, BI tools, and many imports want CSV. This converter finds the list of records for you, even when it is wrapped in something like {"data": {"items": [...]}}, and turns every nested field into its own column, such as address.city. Choose how arrays are named, which delimiter and quoting your target program expects, and whether lines end the Windows or Unix way. Fields that contain commas, quotes, or line breaks are quoted correctly so the file opens cleanly in Excel and Google Sheets.
How to convert JSON to CSV
- Paste your JSON. Paste an array of objects or a whole API response, or press an example. An example only fills the box.
- Adjust the output. Set an array path if the wrong list is picked, choose how nested fields are named, and pick the delimiter, quoting, and line endings.
- Press Convert to CSV. The CSV appears below with the list of columns it contains.
- Copy or download. Press Copy CSV, or Download to save a file that opens in Excel or Google Sheets.
Frequently asked questions
How does it find the data in an API response?
If the JSON is an array, that array is used. Otherwise it looks through the whole document and uses the largest array of objects, such as results or data.items. The path it chose is shown with the result, and you can type your own path to override it.
How are nested objects and arrays turned into columns?
Each nested value gets a column named after its path: address.city, or tags.0 and tags.1 for array items. Choose Keep nested values as JSON text to leave each nested value in one column as JSON instead.
Which options work best for Excel?
Comma delimiter, Only when needed quoting, and CRLF line endings. In countries where Excel expects semicolons, choose Semicolon instead.
What if the records have different fields?
Every field that appears in any record becomes a column, in the order it first appears. Records that lack a field get an empty cell.
How are commas and quotes inside values handled?
A value that contains the delimiter, a double quote, or a line break is wrapped in double quotes, and quotes inside it are doubled, as the CSV standard requires.
