Quick countdowns

About this countdown calculator

Whether you are waiting for a holiday, a launch, an exam, or a trip, it helps to know exactly how long is left. This calculator counts down from the current moment to your chosen date and time in your own time zone, in calendar years, months, and days followed by hours, minutes, and seconds, updating live. The same wait is also shown as totals in each unit. For planning, it counts the business days and work hours in between and the nights of sleep left, and gives the weekday, ISO week, day of the year, and quarter of the target day. Copy a share link to send the countdown to someone else.

How to count down to a date

  1. Name your event. Type a short name such as My birthday, or press a quick countdown.
  2. Pick the date and time. Choose the date and, if it matters, the time. Without a time, the countdown runs to midnight at the start of that day.
  3. Press Start countdown. Watch the live countdown, check the totals and business days, and copy a summary or share link.

Frequently asked questions

What time is used when I do not enter one?

Midnight at the start of the chosen day, in your time zone. Add a time such as 17:00 to count down to a specific moment.

How are business days counted?

Monday to Friday between today and the target day are counted, not including either end. Public holidays are not removed; use the Business Days Calculator for that.

What does the share link do?

It copies a link with the event name and date in it. Opening the link fills in the form so the other person can start the same countdown.

Why do the months and days change unevenly?

The countdown uses real calendar months, which have 28 to 31 days, so “2 months, 3 days” covers a different number of days depending on the months involved.

Does the countdown keep running?

Yes, it updates every second while the page stays open. When the moment arrives, the message changes to tell you the event is here.
