About this countdown timer
A countdown timer is handy for cooking, workouts, exams, presentations, and focused work sessions such as the 25-minute Pomodoro method. This one runs in your browser for up to 99 hours. A ring drains from green to amber to red as time runs out, the browser tab shows the time left so you can work in another tab, and in the last ten seconds the ring gently pulses. At zero it flashes and plays the alarm you chose, made with your browser’s audio engine. The timer keeps measuring against the real clock, so it stays accurate even when the tab is in the background.
How to use the countdown timer
- Set the time. Type hours, minutes, and seconds, or press a preset such as 25 min.
- Choose a sound. Pick Classic bell, Digital beep, Gentle chime, or No sound under Alarm sound.
- Press Start timer. The ring starts counting down. Press Pause to stop it for a while, and Resume to continue; the space bar does the same.
- Use full screen. Press Full screen to show only the timer, which suits classrooms and presentations. Press Esc to leave.
Frequently asked questions
Will the timer keep running in another tab?
Yes. The timer compares against your device clock instead of counting ticks, so it stays accurate when the tab is hidden, and the tab title shows the remaining time.
Why did I not hear the alarm?
Check that your device is not muted and that you chose a sound other than No sound. Browsers only allow sound after you interact with the page, which pressing Start timer counts as.
What do the ring colours mean?
The ring is green while more than half the time is left, amber below half, and red in the last fifth, so you can see at a glance how close you are to the end.
Can I use it for the Pomodoro technique?
Yes. Press the 25 min preset for a focus session and 5 min for a short break, and use the alarm to know when to switch.
