About this business days calculator

Deadlines, delivery times, notice periods, and payment terms are often counted in business days, which leave out weekends and public holidays. This calculator counts them for the work week you choose, including six-day weeks and the Sunday-to-Thursday week used in much of the Middle East, and removes public holidays for any mix of 13 countries. Holidays are calculated from each country’s rules, including Easter-based days and weekend substitutes such as the UK’s replacement bank holidays and Japan’s substitute holidays; dates set by the lunar, Islamic, or Hindu calendars are included for 2024 to 2030. You can also add company days off and half days.

How to count business days

  1. Enter the dates. Pick the start and end dates and decide whether the end date counts. Press an example to try it.
  2. Set the work week and holidays. Choose your work week, tick the countries whose public holidays apply, and add any custom or half days off.
  3. Press Count business days. Read the totals, check the list of holidays found, and scan the calendar for the working days.

Frequently asked questions

Are the start and end dates counted?

The start date always counts if it is a working day. The end date counts when Include the end date is ticked, which is the usual way to count a period such as 1 to 31 March.

How are holidays on weekends handled?

Each country’s practice is followed. US holidays on a Saturday are observed on Friday and on a Sunday on Monday; the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland move them to the next weekday; Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore move Sunday holidays to the next day.

Why are some Asian holidays missing for my year?

Lunar New Year, Mid-Autumn, Eid, Deepavali, Vesak, and similar festivals follow lunar or religious calendars. They are listed for 2024 to 2030; for other years, add them as custom days off.

Does it include regional holidays?

No. Only nationwide holidays are included, so state, provincial, or local days off, such as US state holidays or German regional holidays, should be added as custom days.

Are China’s make-up working days included?

No. China often moves weekends to create longer holidays, with extra working Saturdays or Sundays. Those swaps are announced each year and are not included here.
