About this birth day of the week calculator
Few people know which day of the week they were born on, yet it is easy to work out. This calculator uses the Gregorian calendar for every year, as most modern calendars do, and gives your weekday with its line from the traditional “Monday’s Child” nursery rhyme, first printed in the 1830s. It adds your Western zodiac sign, your Chinese zodiac animal (counted from the start of spring, around 4 February, so early-year birthdays belong to the previous animal), and your birthstone and flower. If the date is in the past, it shows your exact age, the days to your next birthday, and the weekdays of your next ten birthdays, so you can spot the weekend ones.

Frequently asked questions
What day of the week was 4 July 1776?
It was a Thursday. The United States Declaration of Independence was adopted on a Thursday, which you can confirm with the example above.
Where does the “Monday’s child” rhyme come from?
It is an English fortune-telling nursery rhyme that gives each weekday a trait, recorded in the early 19th century. It is folklore, not prediction.
Why is my Chinese zodiac the year before?
The Chinese zodiac year does not start on 1 January. Here it starts at the beginning of spring, around 4 February, so people born in January or early February belong to the previous animal.
Does it work for very old dates?
Yes, for any year from 1 to 9999, using the Gregorian calendar throughout. Dates before 1582, or before a country switched calendars, may differ from records written in the Julian calendar.
How often does my birthday fall on the same weekday?
A birthday moves forward one weekday each year, or two after a leap day, so the same weekday comes back every 5, 6, or 11 years.
