About this bionic reading converter

Bionic reading is a typographic style that makes the first part of every word bold, so your eyes have a fixed point to land on while your brain completes the rest of the word. Some readers, including many with ADHD or dyslexia, say it helps them stay focused and skim faster, while others notice no difference; it is worth trying on your own reading. This converter lets you choose how much of each word to bold, from a light 30% to a strong 70%, and whether short words such as “a” and “to” are left plain. The preview shows the effect, and you can copy the result as HTML or Markdown.

How to convert text to bionic reading

  1. Paste your text. Add an article, notes, or any passage, or press an example.
  2. Tune the effect. Choose the bold strength and the shortest words to bold. 40% with 4+ letter words is a good start.
  3. Convert and copy. Press Convert to bionic reading, check the preview, then copy HTML for web pages and email, or Markdown for notes apps.

Frequently asked questions

Does bionic reading really make you read faster?

Research so far shows mixed results, and on average it does not clearly improve speed. Many people still prefer it because it feels easier to keep their place, so try it and judge for yourself.

How much of each word should be bold?

About 40% suits most readers: three letters of a seven-letter word, for example. Raise it if the effect feels too subtle, or lower it if the text looks heavy.

How do I use the result in Word or Google Docs?

Copy the text from the preview with your mouse and paste it; the bold formatting is kept. The HTML version is better for web pages and email templates.

Why are short words not bolded?

Bolding “a”, “to”, or “it” adds visual noise without helping, so words below the length you choose stay plain. Select All words to bold every word.

Does it work with other languages?

Yes. Any language that separates words with spaces works, including accented letters and Cyrillic. Languages written without spaces, such as Chinese, are not split into words.
